Maybe he really didn't want to buy it ??
Buyers are just as crazy as sellers.
Maybe everyone is nuts.

Michael,
Why so touchy? The guy obviously wanted you to call him and discuss
price. You can always take a pass if he isn't willing to dicker for
what you consider an acceptable price. If I were going to negotiate a
price, I would want to talk on the phone about it as well... it's too
hard doing negotiations like this via email. Perhaps if you had told
him his bottom line price was still to high for you he would have
suggested doing a trade? You never know. There are all kinds of people
in the world... each has their own way of doing business and
negotiating. Maybe you're conclusion is right and the guy was only
looking to rip you off, but you would have discovered that quickly
enough by making the call. As it is, you've shut off negotiations
before they even got started.

*Subject:* [MOPO] WHY respond to a Want List, if you do not want to sell
I have often said that people try to take advantage of non-dealers,
such as me, when we post Want Lists. Usually, the scenario is
offering a re-issue poster for more money than the original would cost
at sotherby's.
I have received nice emails through the years of people
commenting about the items in Want Lists, but look at the following
stupid email(s) that I received, (and i will block out the persons
name and phone number):
*HE RESPONDED TO MY WANT LIST:*

He first told me he had it, and then, I suppose, he expected me to beg
and ask to pay an amount in the stratosphere. His original email
tried to hold the proverbial carrot. YOU JUDGE THE FACTS of holding
the proverbial carrot.
By the way, I have an insert for WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION.
I wasn't planning on selling it, but I would consider 1,000.00-2,000.00.
michael
