KISS ME DEADLY???

Personal favourites: IMAGES, McCABE, NASHVILLE, SECRET HONOR not to mention TV classics like COMBAT! and TANNER. PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION now looks more like a knowing goodbye with Virginia Madsen as the Angel of Death. Irreplaceable genius. RIP.

actually Kirby I always think of 2 films that to me speak of Altman..

Kiss Me Deadly is a favorite film of mine
but "3 Women" to me has always been the single film that relays the director's essence.. it is a remarkable film

My favorite Robert Altman film is McCABE AND MRS. MILLER. To me, this is the essence of the director's style.

My favorite film of his is VINCENT & THEO. The performances were exquisite and the relationship between the two brothers was devastating.

I liked Popeye. The term I used was beautiful mess. The film has some great things going on not the least of which is the casting, art direction, costumes and its faithfullness to Segar's strip. That said, the film, to me, is often flat in its delivery. There are some notorious stories of Altman and company blazing thru the cocaine in Malta while the studio wondered what was going on- a fact that may or may not have had some influence on the final result. The film has always been a mixed bag to me. I love the music and I love the casting. Like all great directors, there is always something to admire in ALL of Altman's films.
