Howdy Claude et al,

Interesting debate on reserves and whether it would
advantageous or foolhardy to a prospective bidder.

When viewing solely from a bidder's angle, I agree
that it is probably a waste of time, with a few
exceptions.

I noted a comment ... "There is also the ebay nonsense
of a price plus Best Offer". While all opinions are
valued, (some more than others), the 'Best Offer'
option has allowed me to list items on eBay at a price
that I would like to sell, but would be willing to
discount in certain instances.

An excellent example is a listing of All American toys
that placed on eBay in the first week of November. I
listed at $4100 'Buy it Now' or best offer. The 'Buy
it Now' option included free shipping / insurance. I
accepted the bidder's offer of $3500, but he picked up
the tab for shipping / insurance, which totaled north
of $400. Small difference when all factors are
considered.

One man's nonsense may be logic to a fool.

A fool on the way to the bank.

Andrea (and this is for Rich, Henry but not Sean)

Please read what I wrote. Did I ask you to give it away? All I said is I
don't chase reserves. I also said that once a reserve is hit, I may bid. I
don't like my time wasted.

There is also a second reason and before I give it, I want to thank Sean for
also clarifying my point.

The second is that there are scoundrels on ebay who place a reserve on a
poster which can never be attained and they do it to see how high the bids will
go. If high enough they will then try to sell it to the highest bidder for
even
more than the high bid and avoid fees. I will not aid them by bidding when
there is an unknown reserve.

I will repeat-----------------reserves are a waste of time. I do not want
anyone to give a poster away. Just let me know that it can be won. There is
also the ebay nonsense of a price plus Best Offer. I will never make an offer
either. (I await insults from those who use this tactic to elicit high offers
without having to actually sell the poster.)

The last statement is simplicity. Kindly read what is written and not take
it personally.

Claude
