2001I'm pretty sure that 2001 was the last film that SK let anyone have final
say over any and all materials issued, other than him or totally trusted
assistants. The daft lobby cards must have pissed of Stan the man enormously
when so much of the other materials were so superb such as the jumbo lobby set,
for example, the 3D counter cards and 3D one sheets, and the core artworks by
Bob McCall.

Indeed Kubrick later intensely disliked any press stills or lobby cards that
were not direct frame enlargements or completely overseen/approved by himself.

As a great stills photographer himself and perfectionist in all areas of his
craft and art, it's easy to understand this.

Oddly enough, some of the best BTS stills taken on the STRANGELOVE shoot were
done by the great Weegee.

There was an entire run of FMJ "US one sheets" that were actually printed in
the UK so SK could oversee the printing.

Looking at this 2001 lobby card, it made me wonder (as it does every time I
look at this lobby card)...what made the photo colorist think that Keir Dullea
wore a green spacesuit with a pink control panel? Don't you think he/she would
check with the art director or someone at the studio? I don't remember what the
exact colors were, but I'm fairly certain they didn't include pink.

In a 1980 interview, Julian Senior, Kubrick's publicity director, said
"Stanley refuses to have a stills photographer standing beside him taking
photographs of every scene. In his opinion, the photograph which best
represents a shot from the film is one enlarged from the print itself." That's
fine, but if you're going to be that finicky, shouldn't you make sure the
photos don't have pink control panels?
