I actually did email Helmut right after the question. I am forwarding my email
to the group.

Sue Heim

Hi Helmut,
I'm sure Ed and Sue have not replied yet, but I wanted to give you my take
from this end. Most of us in the collecting field feel they are fakes even
though the dealers selling them continue to claim their originality. I do the
studio's framing here in Los Angeles and most of my contacts believe them to be
fakes, however, it will become increasingly harder to tell them as fakes.

I bought some of them when they were first made available about 6-7 years from
a dealer that I had known for many years and I had bought many vintage posters
from. He was part of the original trio that supposedly got them from National
Screen Service in Cincinnati, Ohio. The minute I opened up the tube I knew
there was something wrong with them. Since I am around posters daily I just
knew the color register was off. I pulled some of my originals (that I knew
were originals) and laid side by side, the differences were very pronounced. I
have never sold any of those "minty whites". However, I took one out the other
day, a Bladerunner as a matter of fact, to put it against a customer of mine
who had just bought the poster and it was clear his was original but
interesting my Bladerunner was not "minty white" any more. The natural acids of
the paper have begun to yellow the poster and it looked closer to the original
that it had when I bought it 6-7 years ago. My point is that at some point we
won't be able to tell the "minty whites" from the originals. The controversy
will continue and unfortunately, I believe, devalue the price of the originals
as it becomes increasingly harder to tell the differences.

Subject: [MOPO] Fake inserts, an open question to LAMP

Since Sue Heim has brought this subject up again,
here's something that has been bothering me for
  some time:

I recently checked the LAMP website for
information on BLADE RUNNER inserts, and at the
bottom of the listing I found the following
  statement:

'Caution There is a lot of controversy between
dealers over the Blade Runner Insert Poster. Some
dealers say that some inserts are too 'minty'
  white to be original.'

I then checked JAWS and THE ENFORCER and found the same statement.

My question to Ed and Sue from LAMP is: Do you
actually still see a 'controversy' over this
  issue?
Quite frankly, everybody I know seems to think they are fake.

Everybody else on the list, please be so kind and
refrain from comments until Ed and Sue have had
  their say. Thank you.

  Helmut
