I can back that up completely - I'm Born and bred in the UK - The NHS sucks!
Your so right in what you say - It can't handle the demand.

I recently had an operation but it was nothing major and the waiting time
wasn't that bad, but...on a whole waiting times are disgraceful. I really feel
for older people and people needing really important surgery.

Private is definitely the way to go! But Very Very Expensive!

It is swings and roundabouts though....The USA has the worst infant mortality
rate, and the lowest life expectancy of any country and the worst in terms of
cost and efficiency, but probably the best in terms of technology.Andy

I lived in the UK for 5 years, and my daughter was born there (in a private
health facility). Frankly, the NHS is crap. The hospitals looked like
“Cuckoo’s Nest-type” facilities from the 1960’s. On more than one occasion I
saw streaks of blood on the floor in common areas and even piles of used,
dirty, sometimes bloody rags in the corner of a public area. Anyone with a
major illnesses requiring an operation will be waiting 6 months unless they
have private care. The system is creaking at the seams because it can’t handle
the demand…and that is with 40% income tax and an additional 17.5% VAT.

NHS is good for basic immunizations and such. Other than that, we were very
fortunate to have private healthcare in the UK.

I’m not a Moore fan, but do plan to see the film. However, having lived in the
UK and seen the National Health System in action, and having traveled to Cuba
in the last year (and visited a Cuban healthcare facility), I’m very skeptical
at any suggestion that those systems are generally superior to ours.

The Cuban facility (in Havana, no less) was something of which our Cuban guide
was obviously very proud. Unfortunately, it looked more like a small,
underfunded charity hospital from the U.S. in the 1950s. Amazingly primitive.

Nonetheless, the film (as opposed to “documentary”) is undoubtedly worth a look.

I went to the second LA premiere of this film and found it quite compelling.
The first LA premiere was held on Skid Row and was a fund raiser for the
mission. The theater was packed and the tag message at the end is quite
strong.I think he did a good job at what he does best.Toochis

SICKOThat wicked polemicist Michael Moore is at it again. The

pre-election hysteria of FAHRENHEIT 911 will not

juice up audience numbers for SICKO, but I think this

may be Michael Moore's most accessible film. Certainly

some of the film is over the top, but once

proves that his considerable heart is in the right - or should

I say LEFT - place as he looks at the U.S. medical care

conundrum: the best doctors and hospitals in the world

but don't count on seeing them if, as Woody Guthrie once

said, "you ain't got the dough-re-mi."
