They are the exceptions rather than the rule. another exception: The MALTESE
FALCON, which had been made twice before, both stinkers, especially SATAN WAS
A LADY. Neither of the previous versions of THE MALTESE FALCON was a 'classic".
Here's another remake that stunk: How about DIABOLIQUE, with Sharon Stone?
How's was that for nerve?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers was a OK remake. The Fly too.

you can bring a new vision to an older film, maybe old chestnuts are worth
re-making. I have a problem when one attempts to remake a classic that is
indelibly imprinted on people’s minds and 99% of the time, they don’t come off.
Remaking a classic in color because younger people won’t watch black and white
films is not enough of a reason to justify the re-do of Manchurian Candidate,
those ghastly King Kong remakes or even the crappy color versions
of Little Women. FRANC -----Original Message-----

reason for remaking movies such as this. The majority of young people will NOT
watch older movies and especially black and white movies. I have four children
(the oldest is now a college freshman and the youngest is a rising 3rd grader)
and despite my strong interest in old movie, television, and radio; it’s been a
nightmare trying to convince them to watch or listen to older entertainment.
It would be nice if the remake preserved the basic message and perhaps updated
it for today’s world. Bill From: MoPo List

Subject: [MOPO] DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL Well casting is progressing
for the remake of one of the grand-daddies of all science fiction
films: Keanu Reeves has signed for the role of Klaatu in the remake
of DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL ........well, he certainly has a lock on
alien presence in Hollywood but I see
Ralph Fiennes as a more appropriate choice .......but why a remake seems to be
the overriding question here. "I am fearful when I see people
