IT depends. If I'm spending big bucks for something I want to keep in my collection, I ONLY buy from A+ sources that allow an inspection like Bonhams or the other auction houses. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a well-established dealer/collector auction because I was excited about certain pieces in the auction, only to be totally turned off by the condition of the pieces during in-person inspection. Posters rated B+ are loaded with paint and bad retouching and worse yet, items characterized as paper-backed or kraft-backed are really cardboard mounted, etc. etc. If I'm going to spend serious cash for a piece I plan to keep, I have to inspect it. I don't buy these on Ebay.
