This is an interesting thread as I am not a dealer but will occasionally sell
something.

If I want something I can't see how an extra ten to twenty-five dollars would
make a difference especially if I feel the price is fairly reasonable and the
odds of me finding it again are high.

Currently there's a poster I'm interested in but find the 800 price too high
for my budget. If it were 500 or 600 I wouldn't think twice about it. I'm not
sure if that makes sense or not. I thought of contacting the seller to ask
about a discount but then thought better of it. There's no way he'd come down
that far. Still I don't think there's any way he's going to get his price for
it. Especially since I'm sure it's one he's had for years now.

Sometimes I feel people ask prices with the idea that they don't care if it
ever sells and if they get the price so much the better.

Is this really the first time you got one of those? I find it hard to
believe, since I get them all the time. The best one came from a
customer (who lives in Kansas) who asked for a discount on a $35 card,
which I reluctantly gave him and then he gave me some bogus excuse as to
why he still couldn't pay me for it after 2 months, even though when I
checked his Ebay purchases from other dealers, I noticed that he bought
a slew of really expensive lobby cards priced over $300. I finally put
him on my block bidder list and when he found out about this, he sent me
the most vile e-mail in which every other word was an obscenity. That's
  the thanks you get! FRANC

Subject: [MOPO] Annoying E-mail from a Potential EBAY Buyer

As a seller on EBAY, I often get annoying e-mails from potential
buyers. Today I received one of the MOST ANNOYING E-MAILS in a long
time. I can see a person asking for a discount on an expensive items
(e.g. a few hundred dollar discount on a $3,000. poster) but I'm really
surprised when people expect you to discount something that is over
forty years old and is priced around $25! I guess I should start asking
the local AMC to sell me a movie ticket for $6. instead of $10.50.
Let's see how that goes over.

Here's the question from the buyer:

"Would you consider putting this item on sale for 20% off so that the
total after shipping would be $32.55? If you are willing to do that,
then I will go ahead and purchase this item. Please let me know.
  Thanks."
