Still too swamped to get into all of the debates -- but most of the posts I've 
read thus far have pretty covered everything.  
 
But I can wait no longer for someone to step forward to bring up what was, in 
my view, a more egregious omission.  While people go on about Renfro or others 
left out from the Oscar "in memoriam" segment -- what about Roy Scheider?  The 
annual "Memoriam" segments traditionally include all notable motion 
picture-related deaths right up to the ceremony itself.  
 
Frankly, if I was on the Academy's Board, I'd be just as, if not more 
embarrassed trying to explain how Roy was overlooked.  The man was nominated 
for Best Actor (1979) and Supporting Actor (1971) in his career.  It shouldn't 
have been too hard to get last-minute digital clips of his appearances in 
"Jaws," "The French Connection" and "All That Jazz."  I'm sure it was a 
mistake, but still quite egregious...
