THE STARS OF MGM was one in a series of 24" X 30" limited edition posters
produced by Hollywood based company, The Art Merchant -- a subsidiary of The
Nostalgia Merchant -- between 1977 and 1982. They were the brainchild of the
company's founder, legendary record producer, "Snuff" Garrett.

I should know, I was first Vice-President of the company and, later, President
until it was sold to an international conglomerate, Heron Entertainment.

There were four multiple signature prints in the series: THE STARS OF REPUBLIC,
THE STARS OF 20TH CENTURY-FOX, THE LONE RANGER AND TONTO (signed by Clayton
Moore and Jay Silverheels) and THE WIZARD OF OZ (signed by Ray Bolger and Jack
Haley). Single signature prints were: TARZAN (signed by Johnny Weissmuller),
FLASH GORDON (signed by Buster Crabbe), SHIRLEY TEMPLE, ROY ROGERS, MAE WEST
and BURT REYNOLDS.

There were also three prints which were never completed: THE STARS OF COLUMBIA,
THE STARS OF ROCK AND ROLL and THE STARS OF COUNTRY MUSIC.

Editions varied from 1200 to 2000 and, as hard as it may be believe, each
signature on every poster was individually hand signed by the celebrity, who
were compensated for their participation. The process took any where from 5 1/2
hours to 2 days, though the average signing time was about seven hours. It was
arduous process, but afforded me the rare opportunity to meet and converse with
at length with dozens of my screen favorites.

The Art Merchant issued individual COAs with each poster -- most of which bore
my signature. After The Nostalgia Merchant was sold, the remaining prints were
sold to several different galleries and art print dealers. I am not certain
whether the original Certificates of Authenticity accompanied each poster.

Best,

Earl Blair

The Nostalgia Merchant is entirely legit...they put out a series of special
edition autographed/montage posters in the 70's featuring, among others, Mae
West and Johnny Weissmuller, and these pop up quite frequently. There's no
worry with these.

  jim,

i had a question about one of the items... the MGM signed card, as you said,
limited to 2000 copies. are you saying that all those stars supposedly each
signed 2000 cards in 1978? the other thing is, you have the COA provided by
Nostalgia Merchant???--- a COA from a place that sells public domain tv shows
and films. how are (or were) they able to authenticate these autographs? do you
know?

  thanks.
