u got it evan...well said... and on that same note... i HIGHLY doubt that 1000.00 dollar posters are being sold for dorm room walls, either.

Um... right.

And if you were decorating YOUR home theater and had allocated $57 for the artwork -- would you buy THAT? I don't think so!

And you can't be telling me that you would expect to sell that to someone decorating a college dorm room? There really aren't that many Norma Shearer fans in the dorms!

we have an antique shop and poster gallery I have to tell you that 80% of our posters whether they are $10.00 or $1,000 are not sold to collectors per se (although some of the buyers become collectors). They are purchased for the graphics to decorate a home theater, a game room or just a college dorm room.

Perhaps, but that suggests you can buy a tube, ship a poster back and forth to a restorer and have it cleaned up for $93. Seems like a lot of work for perhaps little (or no) profit.

Personally, I think the person who paid $57 overpaid by a considerable margin! This is just another example of whats happening to this hobby --the values of insignificant posters of insignificant movies with forgotten stars are plummetting!

I got curious, So I book marked This post and auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=350052707244

$ 57.00, Fifty Seven! Do you guys think it would have done better restored?? perhaps $700.00 as Michael loudly proclaim.

Personally I don't think 700.00, but perhaps 150.00 restored??

dario.

on ebay presently, a very honorable seller has an insert that looks nearly perfect. the description states, however, that the bottom fold it is completely separated. (honest seller with full disclosure)

i own this 1940s beautiful insert for an awesome film and great cast with great artwork. it is very rare, and i have not seen another one until now. i paid about 160 on ebay about 5 years with a snipe....and it was clearly a bargain. the auction houses would get 700 plus plus plus today..

I AM SURE that this could easily be RESOLD by an unscrupulous person, after it is placed on linen or paper-backing and sold as "MINT" .

moral of the scenario: you never know what you get when something was backed no matter who the seller is!!!! i always am willing to pay more for unbacked!!!! ....this always invokes the war on MOPO, linen versus non-linen. Perhaps, the studios missed a great B MOVIE title in the 50s: WAR OF THE LINENBACKER PEOPLE

((( i choose not to start a war by naming the seller. the seller is truly an honest seller, and has disclosed the defect. my comments address the after-sale )))
