ESCAPE is a film noir?

I thought it was one of many anti-isolationist films made by Hollywood
pre-Pearl Harbor pointing out the horrors of what the Nazis were doing in and
to Europe.

Whoever got it for 57 bucks (separation or not) got a nice Metro insert for the
period featuring two of the studio's biggest stars, directed by one of the best
directors working in the studio system.

Backed and fixed up, it's an interesting piece that would again be all in one
piece. Certainly not $700 interesting, but my guess is the buyer is thrilled to
bits and is probably familiar with what is actually a pretty potent movie...
either that or is one of several Connie Veidt collectors out there who are
gap-filling and who are more obsessed with the objects of their desires than
the condition of their objects of their desires.

  dario,

i would agree with you... a 57 dollar item is not going to increase in value
over 10 fold simply by having it backed. and with the number of noir collectors
that peruse ebay for items, the fact that it went for 57.00 should be some kind
of indictor as to it's value, dont you think? so i would agree, that backed it
could sell for 150-200 (including the backing charge).

$ 57.00, Fifty Seven! Do you guys think it would have done better
restored?? perhaps $700.00 as Michael loudly proclaim.

    Personally I don't think 700.00, but perhaps 150.00 restored??

    dario.

on ebay presently, a very honorable seller has an insert that looks
nearly perfect. the description states, however, that the bottom fold it is
completely separated. (honest seller with full disclosure)

i own this 1940s beautiful insert for an awesome film and great cast with
great artwork. it is very rare, and i have not seen another one until now. i
paid about 160 on ebay about 5 years with a snipe....and it was clearly a
bargain. the auction houses would get 700 plus plus plus today..

I AM SURE that this could easily be RESOLD by an unscrupulous person,
after it is placed on linen or paper-backing and sold as "MINT" .

moral of the scenario: you never know what you get when something was
backed no matter who the seller is!!!! i always am willing to pay more for
unbacked!!!! ....this always invokes the war on MOPO, linen versus non-linen.
Perhaps, the studios missed a great B MOVIE title in the 50s: WAR OF THE
LINENBACKER PEOPLE

((( i choose not to start a war by naming the seller. the seller is
truly an honest seller, and has disclosed the defect. my comments address the
after-sale )))
