Just a querie, is it legal/illegal to carry a knife in USA?

In New South Wales, where I live you must be 18+ to even buy a steak knife.

Carrying a knife is NOT ALLOWED.

Is a gun, with licence allowed, a knife not?

Curiosity might kill me, but hey, thats what Humans are all about,
