Hey Rich,
So sorry to hear the news. I was amazed when you said they dusted for
prints. As Erich said, most robberies I know about have the police coming out
to do the obligatory walk through. I have a friend who lives in fairly upscale
neighborhood here in the San Fernando Valley. The neighborhood has the L.A.
river wash behind the whole street of houses. She was robbed about 4 months
again. The theives came down the wash and climbed over the wall into her back
yard and busted out her son's bedroom window to come into the house. Her
husband made a quick flyer to pass out to neighbors to warn them of the robbery
in the neighborhood. When the police showed up, all these neighbors started
coming over to her house to let them know they had also been robbed the
previous week, the previous month, etc. The police had said nothing to her
about a string of robberies in her neighborhood. One lady had been broken into
twice in less than a year. My friend had to replace all the windows in her
house and was just about to have the alarm system put in this week, when the
neighbor that had already been robbed twice came over to say they hit her for
the third time. They were getting pretty brazen at this point, they just pulled
a truck up in front and went in through the dining room. A neighbor had seen
the truck but didn't put two and two together. So much for the "neighborhood
watch" program.
Robberies and break ins are so overwhelming the police say they just don't
have the manpower or time to deal with it. My neighbors across the street from
me were broken into in the middle of the night as they slept. Got up the next
morning to find the garage door open, their living room ransacked and their car
gone out of the driveway. They had out of town company at the time and when the
dog barked they thought it might be the company getting up to go to the
bathroom. So, they called the dog into their bedroom and shut the door. They
did find those two guys as they found the car and the one guy was still driving
it. He was a meth addict and had broken into their house with a gun. So, good
thing they didn't get up and confront the guy. Scary stuff. I have alarms on
everything. I have so many security lights on my house that anybody trying to
break in during the night will be blinded before he can get to the door!! Not
to mention the air raid siren that goes off and I've done it accidentally a
couple of mornings. I leave early sometimes and, before anyone is awake, in my
efforts to be quiet getting out the door, have forgotten to turn off the alarm
and the minute that door barely cracks open, off goes that alarm and everyone
comes flying down the hall. At least I know it works!! Take care everyone.

Terrible. It's got to be a horrible feeling -- a friend of mine had her house
broken into and many items stolen several years back and all the "CSI" team did
was a walkthrough. They wouldn't even get out their fingerprint dusting
equipment -- wouldn't even OPEN THE CASE to anything. Just looked around,
essentially said "Tough luck" and left. I couldn't believe it.Good luck on
getting things back together Rich.-Erich
