After a particularly acrimonious exchange with the smarmy types that run "Facebook"- they raided my personal address book and sent email invitations in my name-- some of you got them!!-- I demanded that all Facebook connection with my name, id, etc., be severed forever. Only after my threat of "exposure" to the State of Louisiana Public Service Commission (an organization that, for some reason, seems to jar these predators! Maybe the payoff offers weren't high enough--LOL!), was my demand adhered to. Several friends who are followers of Facebook have maintained that I was the one at fault (don't they always??!!??!!!!) but even the Facebook minion who corresponded with me at the time admitted that I was NOT. Fool with Facebook, Twitter, etc., at your own risk!! All they want is to know everything there is to know about YOU!!!! And they'll never forget it. Joe B in NOLA PS-- And the Texters and Twitterers are destroying any vestige of pleasure at the Movie Palace!! Some local theatres are starting to have special 7:30 PM showings for "18-and-up" patrons. One mall here in NOLA has banned under-18s from the premises (without adult accompaniment) after 6 PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The movie theatre in the mall reports GREAT business from grownups on these nights and is delighted with the arrangement! Joe

I find it very annoying, akin to instant messaging limited to 140 characters. However, amazingly, I've found people that had fallen through the cracks at other places like -- to me -- the overly narcissistic Facebook. Though I expect Twitter will "twitter out" quickly, a small group of people do discuss posters, esp. their market values, e.g., an opinion that the "Gilda" style B to be offered by Heritage with a $20-25K estimate -- might be $10-20K too low compared to prices for the more oft-seen "This Gun for Hire" and "Out of the Past". One site just started is at: http://twibes.com/movieposters ** Advice -- if you do this -- keep your cell phone alert settings OFF -- and have 'em sent instead by e-mail into a separate e-mail folder like I've done for years for MoPo posts. After just 10 min. of getting stupid "tweets" from people with nothing to say, I couldn't take it; I prefer getting them on the web on my own time. Not good for the office. Twitter is best for concise breaking news from your fav news sites, which ALL use it. ** I understand some of these sites help find jobs in a slumping economy, but some of its users (not all) -- esp. those who use Facebook -- in my view, are guilty of self-absorption taken to the extreme. Sorry if I've offended Facebook users -- but my criticism is more aimed at users who feel compelled to explain -- in "cosmic" detail -- why blue is a good "karma" color, why new-age mystic stuff is "mind-blowing, man" or why their yoga mats are more important than refrigerators. -d.
