My family had a home near the Jacksons' Encino house during the Beat It! and
Thriller days. It was near what once upon a time was Clark Gable's estate,
on Hayvenhurst a block or so south of Ventura Blvd if you know the area at
all. All day long there would be people gathered just staring at the gate,
day after day. Nothing else to see - just a narrow driveway, hedges, and a
big iron gate with a spikey top. One day as we were driving by, it happened
to open and a burnt orange-colored (that's how I remember it) limo emerged:
My family and I made a pretend big deal out of it - as though we were just
as impressed as the shouting and waving mooks on the street. Maybe we were,
or at least I was on some level, since it's 25 years later and I still
remember the day.

Subject: [MOPO] MICHAEL JACKSON

Michael once left a message on the answering machine at MovieArt
asking to purchase a six-sheet we had. I was out to dinner, so I never
spoke with him.

Arguably the biggest living (now not) pop star in the world. In solo
acts, only Elvis exceeds him in fame, I would think. But maybe not,
because the market was so much larger in Michael Jackson's era.

The Beatles individually, too.

Will Paul finally get the rights to the Beatles music, now?
Another chapter will follow in his so-far elusive attempt to
regain Beatles' publishing.
