I think it is interesting that both of these Portal reproductions sold recently in Columbus and most likely were hastily linen-backed and now being sold as originals. My only hope is that the current seller paid a lot for them thinking he could make a tidy profit and now is stuck with posters that are worth far less than the linen-backing. He'll certainly waste more money on Ebay listing fees than he will ever see from these repros.

To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, July 9, 2009, 1:28 PM These were pointed out by someone last week and I have had a couple exchanges with the seller since. When pointed out that the size is wrong he first said he was told they were jumbo lobbys which the size is wrong for. He told someone else that these were made for a foreign market which did not display the larger posters but that they were original release still. The large year on the bottom right is a common doing by Portal as we have seen in the many King Kong and other portals. I found a link for another Valentino poster with these dimensions that was offered in an auction a few years back. The size on it was a half inch different lengthwise and it had the Portal address just below horizontal with the large year so it has been trimmed off or altered in some other way. Unfortunately with all that I and others have told him he stands by these as original issue. But unlike Portal repros, these do NOT have the Portal name printed anywhere on them. And Portal usually prints their name on their reproduced posters, dont they? As i wrote, the ONLY thing on the bottom border, is the year. Dont get me wrong, i dont think these are the real thing either. but the lack of any info printed on them made me curious. --- On Thu, 7/9/09, Richard Halegua Comic Art <[email protected]> wrote: From: Richard Halegua Comic Art <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MOPO] Are these the real deal? Ed from LAMP thought they might be promo posters of some sort. The only thing printed in the lower right border was the year, in the case of the Bow poster, "1930." Both were linen backed as well, and the seller was asking about $8K each. Any ideas? Are they the real deal? More current repros?
