For a weekend laugh:
** A climactic scene from Director Oliver Hirschbiegel's "Der Untergang"
("Downfall," 2004) -- chronicling the final days of Adolph Hitler -- has been
the subject of numerous English-language parodies, the most successful in my
view, depicting the most evil man of the 20th century being slammed by the
housing/financial meltdown. All the parodies have been controversial,
generating protests from Holocaust groups -- as well as objections from the
film's distributor. However, if you embrace Mel Brooks's belief that the way
to get back at Nazis is not only to punish them for their crimes -- but to also
make fun, mock and to humiliate them -- then I think you'll laugh at this bit.
