In The Beginning - Joe Hernandez
I was both surprised and amazed at the number of inquiries I have received
recently regarding the fake Universal Horror movie posters.
Its been awhile since I have been involved in the poster restoration business,
and before I continue, I would like to pay tribute to my mentor and friend,
Jose Ma. Carpio. A very special friend that introduced me into this business,
and left us way too soon. I miss his great sense of humor, his sense of style
and his inspiration. May he rest in peace, watching movies in that great movie
palace in the heavens.
I am also gratified that so many of my protégés are still operating successful
restoration/linen backing businesses. They continue to serve the industry with
the knowledge they acquired under my tutelage. Congratulations to Judy…Congrats
to John Davis… Congrats to Gordon Christman… Congrats to Sylvia Locken…
Congrats to Susan Olson… Congrats to Carol Tincup… Congrats to Diane Jeffrey…
and Congrats to Jaime and Norma Mendez..
This unpleasant revelation of producing fake posters for profit on a systematic
basis, has generated many questions regarding Jaime’s knowledge and character.
I have known Jaime the longest of anyone, for many, many years. He worked for
me, and was my right hand man, as I developed his skills. The question has come
up from several people as to whether Jaime was a willing and knowledgeable
participant in this fraud. I can shed some much needed light on this. If anyone
would like to email me privately, I will answer any questions, truthfully and
to the best of my knowledge.
In closing, I would like to say to you all, that if in the past I have been
responsible for causing any harm to this industry or to anyone personally, I am
deeply sorry. I have paid dearly. The ultimate punishment was that I was banned
from working and participating in an industry that I loved so much.
Sincerely,
Joe Hernandez
