There is one more GIGANTIC problem with slabbing. It puts a layer between my eyes and the item. Most of how I determine whether an item is genuine is based on looking closely with my eyes (and that layer makes that much harder to do) and also, when I am in doubt, the "feel" of the paper is quite helpful, and slabbing throws that out the window. Plus, a great way to detect hidden restoration (on the front or back of an item) is to touch it super gently with your fingers, and if you have a delicate touch, you can tell the restored areas' "feel" from that of the original paper.
The way I see it, slabbing is a forger's best friend! Just bribe a lowly grader (how much can they possibly get paid?; they might get a year's salary for certifiying say a Dracula one-sheet), or just find an unknowledgeable grader who misses restoration or recreation, and now you have a mis-described item that is certified to be something other that what it is. I see slabbing as being one tiny step up from COAs.
