I get packages of consignments all the time that are sent via Media Mail,
and posters clearly can not be sent via media mail, so this is illegal.
Interestingly, the Post Office has been increasingly catching this and
marking the packages Balance Due (of course this is especially easy with
tubes of posters!).
But I was looking to send a large box of pressbooks, and I wondered if they
CAN be legally sent via Media Mail. I went to the USPS website, and they
were (predictably) not that helpful.
Here is what they say:
" Media MailĀ® service is a cost efficient way to mail books, sound
recordings, recorded video tapes, printed music, and recorded
computer-readable media (such as CDs, DVDs, and diskettes). Media Mail can
not contain advertising except for incidental announcements of books. The
maximum weight for Media Mail is 70 lbs"
Of course pressbooks contain tons of advertising, so does that mean THEY
can't be sent via Media mail?
Opinions?
