legally - no ad material can be sent. - press kits are exclusively
advertising, so no, they can not
be legally sent.
Media mail is an interesting thing; I collect American Heritage
magazines - Up to 1980 they contained no ads,
so these can be sent media mail, but the ones published later, can not.
I often send phonograph records - when book rate became media mail, I was
told that CDs and tapes are sound recordings, but records are not (that
took a month to clear up)!
you can send 8mm and 16mm movies (but not unexposed film) - you can not
send 35mm movies or
unexposed film.
you can send DVDs, CDs and video tapes, (as long as they are not blank),
but can not include
a catalog of other releases (that would be an ad).
Now - what is legal, and what people get away with are two different
things.
