Hey Rick, I just thought of something. I wonder if she is the Marci whose family owned Hollywood Book City Collectables on Hollywood Blvd. I knew her well and we often socialized together with friends. She operated a litte annex next to the main store that was only collectables. She had lots of Beatles memorabilia as well as alot of autographed mateiral and other collectables. I bought some tri-folded material as far back as the 70's. I use to work in the film business and many people I worked with knew I collected movie posters. I had a guy who was in the business whose father was a big wig at Warner's in the 40's-60's and he had boxes of tri-folded one sheets. I trade him for alot of them. I had Joan of Arc, Under Capricorn, Stage Frieght, and several other titles that I got from him and they were all tri-folded and definitely authentic. So, they are have been around for quite awhile. I think offering them to the group was a nice gesture. If I didn't already have several copies, I would probably get one. Take care, Sue (thanks Rick)..
P.S.... that would explain why they have been in a warehouse. When they closed the store, they had millions of books and tons of memorabilia that I'm sure would have to have been stored. I actually met Michael Jackson in the store back in the late 70's. He collected National Geographics and he and I were standing next to each other in a book isle. I didn't notice him until this person, standing next to me, asked me if I liked the song I was whistling. As I turned toward him, it was Michael Jackson and I was whistling the song on his latest album "Off the Wall", Don't Stop till you get Enough!! We had a laugh about it and I came to know him over the years. Funny story............ From: [email protected] Date: Sat, 30 Jan 2010 13:40:13 -0500 Subject: Re: [MOPO] Orig BEATLES HELP! TRI-FOLDED 1-SHEETS To: [email protected] Hi, Sue, As it says in Marci's description, she was a dealer in Beatles and other music-related material in the late 70's here in L.A. (I think Hollywood). She only realized she'd had these stored away for 30 years a couple of weeks ago. So, I don't think these fall into the same category as tri-folded one sheets that are "suddenly appearing". I have no doubt that what she's saying is 100% accurate. Hey, I had some minor doubts until I opened up the tube they were shipped in and looked at them. I knew instantaneously that they were the real deal. So, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone (hate to use that reference)--- help her sell the rest of her tri-folded Help! one sheets and offer MoPo members what I thought to be a great deal at the same time. I viewed it as a win-win situation for everyone involved. Rick In a message dated 1/30/2010 10:16:39 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Yes Rick. I figured she had just used someone else's picture even though, and you are correct, it would have been better to show the actual tri-folded one sheet someone would be bidding on just to emphasize the fact that it was indeed a tri-fold. For you, having worked with paper for so many years, I'm sure you can validate their authenticity. I wasn't questioning that at all. Just wondered why she had used someone else's photo. But I know that are many tri-folded posters out there and many of them have just surfaced in the las 10 years. Some of it could be do to many of the distribution houses gettting rid of old inventory. I know this to be a fact, as I do framing for some of those distribution houses right here in L.A. and they routinely get "destruction" orders for old inventory. Most of them are suppose to shred or destroy the posters. Many of them just throw it away or take it to the recyler. A few years back, I was at a recycler in North Hollywood and stack against a back wall was thousands of lobby card sets, brand new, being recycled. It near broke my heart.... TRI-FOLDED 1-SHEETS To: [email protected] Hi, Sue, It was brought to my attention by Dave Lieberman that the photo of the Help! one sheet was lifted from his site. (He wasn't upset). It's too bad because I've purchased two of these one sheets and they are indeed tri-folded and 100% authentic. It definitely would have suited the seller better if she'd taken a picture of the actual one sheet that was being auctioned. I'd stake my entire reputation on the authenticity of these one sheets. Maybe it's justified, but there's so much paranoia running rampant in the hobby that at times it's ridiculous. It's hard for me to believe that all of these tri-folded Help! one sheets haven't been sold by now. Rick Ryan In a message dated 1/30/2010 8:27:16 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: I did think that was strange. I looked at the picture and noticed it wasn't a tri-fold but a linenbacked one sheet. The other thing that is interesting about the Help one sheet, is that it is notoriously not exactly 27x41. I have framed many Help one sheets. All have been folded, national screen service style, and they often measure about 40 1/2. Many years ago when I framed the first one, I noted the size and thought it might have been trimmed, but all four quandrants of the poster were the same size, about 10 1/8" instead of 10 1/4". However, I have linenbacked and framed many more and, as I recall, they all turn out to be that same slightly undersized dimension. I think there has been some talk here on the forum in past years about that issue and mentioned in auctions when they are being sold. Perhaps there are some straight 27x41's out there as there could be some from two different print sources. I will also note that they could be posters that were intended for foreign distribution as they were often pack and shipped that way.
