really hits it on the head. DID IT ENTERTAIN YOU?
that's ultimately what a film maker is trying to do
if you really want to see the same old rehash, check out Book of Eli.
it has little originality and rehashes many of the same things as
Road Warrior + Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Waterworld and Children of
Men. I thought it was sad that the concept sliced from CoM was Denzel
bringing the "book" to safety much like Clive Owen was trying to
bring the pregnant girl to the boat and he dies in the process being
injured but not showing it etc. I think it turned the premise of
Children of Men, which was fairly original, into a cliche all by
itself by subordinating it to it's own usage.
so very little of Hollywood is the Usual Suspects or Pulp Fiction or
Syriana. Most of it is the same stuff we've all seen before which in
many cases was also a cliche of something we hadn't seen from an
earlier time. How many times has beauty & the beast been a theme in
films of any kind.?? I thought Inglorious Basterds did a fantastic
job of avoiding most cliche from a director that twists cliche as
part of his own cliche
movies for the most part are made for you to forget where yuo are for
90 minutes and recommend your friends to.
not that much of it is Pulitzer Prize material

I thought Avatar had many original plot points. And some familiar
ones mixed in there too. And that's how real life is as well.
Here's a question; is Avatar entertaining? Did the movie take you
out of that theater seat and put you in a different place?
It was, and it did, for me.
And for the record, I thought Stephen Lang was a damn good bad guy.

agreed..
I'm trying to remember another script's plot where you go into a
little chamber, so you can transmorph into a giant fairy in another
world, so you can stick the end of your long-braided hair into
another animal's mane, so you can become one with it, so you can fly
through floating islands.
True, we not only see some familiar plots, but we see MANY MANY
familiar plots all grouped into one, making one big interesting plot
that's not overwhelming but highly entertaining in state-of-the-art
3-D. Storyline aside, it's quite the technical wonder for its visual
advancements.
