Generally, I thought the show was really pretty good.

I agree that the dance sequences to the nominated scores just misfired. If the
idea was to bring attention to the music, in my opinion, it did
not. Why not just play a medley of the music as they have in the past.

Here is what I chiefly wish the Academy would do. Get rid of those
"Entertainment Tonight" - type synopsis-trailer-clips - to represent the Best
Pictures and
just show a real SCENE from the film -- once again, as they used to do. That,
in my opinion, cannot be improved upon. I'm sure the producers of the films
think that these trailer-clips sell the film -- but people who pay any
attention to current films have seen these trailers again and again.

Just one scene from AVATAR would have been so much better than that clip that
has been seen on TV so many times.

The stage looked really good, and I liked the Baldwin-Steve Martin hosting.

What was the one huge surprise for me? That THE WHITE RIBBON did not win.
I've heard that the film is amazing. In fairness, I do not
know much about the other films in this category.

My money was on Streep, but Bullock won it. She is Queen around here.
Austin's one bona fide genuine Movie Star!
