One day I called a ad in back of American Cinematographer to buy some Gear.. the man was Linwood Dunne who is the one who invented the process of overlapping the Images of the KING KONG and work at RKO We spoke for hours on phone and he sent me a fax with his Acedemy ballot for the year when TITANIC won.. he Liked Starship troopers.
The movie machine society had all kinds of people involved... Grant Loukes a Friend in Cal owns the original camer 3 strip that shot Gone with the wind... then I sa the Camera Hitchcock used to shoot the Birds... a Mitchell
35mm..A guy from OHIO named JOhn Harvey was the GURU on te Cinerama process and set up the ribbon screen at the New neon theatre in Dayton OHIO and also the one i n Washinton stste owned by Paul Allen.
The projection for Allen came from PERU as they found the gear there...Its just amazing how in my lifetime Ive seen so many collections and studios clsose down and the gear be put in storage never to be seen again... there is a Collection at USC of SOL LESSOR of Tarzan fame thats supposed to be keiiler... I was able to get to see the collection at the ROchester eastman house that Our Group reveived clearence to see..
It was awesome..There are still many private collectors that have saved so much..... In Toledo Ohio we had 3 manufactures of Cinema gear, STRONG electric made lamphouse , EPRAD made all kinds of sound gear , drivein speakers and film movement devises, and Kneisley made lamphouse... the people were all inovators and all 3 people worked together in the 1920s at one point.. all interesting stuff at beginning of the projection experiance. The library of Congress house all the films in vaults at wright patterson air force base in Dayton. So ohio has contributed much to Movie as did Chicago Ill. Detroit, and New York and Mass...
Alva Roebuck of Seears was the founder of the Motiograph company... all good stuff and your story confirms how these Cinema Guys did so much...The paper negatives that were all the Lib Of Congress had were saved by Kemp NIVER by a machine made By Linwood DUnnee.... Linwood told me on phone that no one would do it .. he had to transfer one fram at a time to 16mm all the silents.. and Kemp took on the project It was a tedious long process to save the silenst as all they had were paper POsitives of the films...

I did so, for $20,000.A year or so later, I had some of these posters in storage in California, when the storage unit was broken into, and they (and many boxes of great pressbooks) were stolen. In a story I will write about another day, a couple of doughnut chewing detectives found the drug addict who masterminded the crime, and I was able to recover most of the items (but two of Mr. Malkames three-sheets were never recovered, as well as a few of the best pressbooks, and my gold bracelet from the 1981 World Series of Poker event I won).I would guess that overall I lost a little money on the posters I bought from Mr. Malkames, but I don't mind, because it went to a great man who did much good with the money.Incidentally, when we talked, he told me how much he HATED current moviemaking!
