I just got an inquiry about a glossy photo of the Steve Miller Band from
1978, asking if the autograph was indeed mine on the photo. It indeed
wasn't, and it indeed wasn't even close.
If the crafty devils out there can counterfeit original Universal stuff,
then any monkey with a pen can fake an autograph. I personally have
always been prejudiced about signed posters; I'm all about the image
(both in my personal and poster geek lives.)
OK, that's my two stinking cents. As you were.

Thats the problem with identifying autographs. I have seen some
Zsa Zsa Gabor autographs that apper to be quite different to the
one on the poster but it is quite possible that this is her
signature in a different form to those that I have seen.
Provenance is very important when identifing autographs ie when
and where was the signiture obtained. There are plenty of examples
where signatures change dramatically according to the time and
place or the whim of the person signing.
