Liam Neeson phoned in his part. A great actor totally wasted. The
characters told you everything that was going to happen in the first
20 minutes, and then, by golly, that's EXACTLY what did happen. Talk
about zero suspense.
Except, a seer says something will happen that never happens, and it
is never explained why (I think they assume the viewers will have
forgotten all about it, since it happened a good 20 minutes before).
And both the Cracken and the Medusa stunk, on multiple levels, and the
killing of them was so unoriginal it was hard to believe.

I'll take this Kraken over the new one, any day of the week:

I wasted an hour & a half of my life on the muddled mess that
was THE WOLFMAN remake. Now that movie didn't just blow, it
blew goats.....crappy, CGI animated goats. (Note to
Universal....finish the f**king script before you start
filming the movie.) I saw the film with a bunch of
20-something acquaintances whose taste in movies is pretty
low-brow, and even they knew it was a furry piece of
lycanthropic doody..
A great cast, pissed away. Did the movie make any money? It
lurked around the theaters like a derelict in a raincoat for a
few weeks, meaning it must have generated some sort of dough....

casting... i'm sure Liam Neeson doesnt hold a candle to that
performance..

may be awful, the 3D may "blow" (to quote someone else), or it
may not. i'm also interested in the CG FX used for creatures
like Medusa and The Kraken. Again, the original utilized the
amazing stop motion animation of Ray Harryhausen-- so for that
reason alone, Franc, the original was worth taking a look at.

thats for sure. One that comes to mind most recently is THE
WOLFMAN. it tried but failed in many respects. After seeing i,
it was obvious why it was shelved for about a year after it's
initial release date.
