Thanks Ed and Bruce for your input.  I will certainly examine the borders when it arrives

I believe I am the ultimate expert on these, having had both complete sets. I once thought (as Freeman did) that the orientation of the border plane indicated original or reissue, but that is incorrect, for both sets have cards where the planes are straight and diagonal.

The original cards have solely "Country of Origin USA" in the bottom border, and the re-releases have "Copyright 1937".

As Ed says, I have seen cards where people who did not know the above have either scratched out the 7, replaced it with a zero, or deleted it altogether, trying to fool a buyer into thinking it is original.

If a card does not have "Country of Origin USA" at the bottom it is certainly a re-release (or an original with a missing or restored bottom border).

Hi Kevin,

I have both cards on file. The image is that of the 1937 but the 1937 has the copyright on the bottom right and the UA tag on the bottom left. Has the card been restored? We have run into numerous pieces where the restorer had to put back borders that had been trimmed or damaged. We have also run into some that didn't put back the original information or even put it back wrong when they didn't have something to go by.

Best,

Ed

This lobby looks like the 1930 release , i.e. has no copyright info on bottom border and like the 30 just says "Country of Origin USA" on bottom lower right. Also, the colors are more consistent with the 1930 release.  HOWEVER, the plane art is at a 320% angle instead of upright like other 1930 versions I've seen.   Any thoughts?
