I think the frequently lurid graphics are just right for lurid movies, e.g. 50/60s horror/scifi/exploitation. They are also quite a good entry-level item for some of the really big titles. I do actually like the pseudo-deco style of the King Kong discussed recently (was it 60s or 70s? I didn’t get a conclusive reply). As JR mentioned, the WOTW cards show the Martian war machines which is a bonus. Yes, the star portraits are often very amateurish and the layouts way too busy, but sometimes they work – our old friend The Third Man is one, La Strada, In A Lonely Place (photo style), Casablanca, to name some off the top of my head. So I can’t write them off completely. Besides perceived quantity, I'm sure people are often suspicious of them because it’s difficult to distinguish or date re-releases. Taking WOTW again as an example, there is a CIC-stamped re-release that is very frequently sold as original. Such is true of very many of the big titles, where the distributor logo might be the only clue. I think Bruce got some pretty good results for Mexican material a little while ago, so some people must like it. As for why the Nazarin 1-sheet doesn’ t sell, that does surprise me a little, since it is a good Bunuel title. Maybe it’s the obvious religious theme that puts people off – Bunuel posters picturing Deneuve seem to do quite well funnily enough. Or maybe there aren’t so many hardcore Bunuel collectors on ebay.
