Kevin,
Newer is not always better. In fact it is often worse. The fact that you
would even make such a suggestion shows you clearly don't understand (or
don't value) the convenience of having posts come directly into your
personal inbox with no effort required on your part -- and being able to
respond to those posts from your personal e-mail program -- all
*without* having to go to some website and log in just to see the
current messages. This approach is far better for me than all the newer
options (all of which I've tried).
But no one is stopping you if all this new stuff jazzes you. Go do your
forum/facebook/twitter/so-called social networking thing and leave us to
tend to our dinosaurs. I've been there, done that and the other options
far more trouble than they are worth -- but for those who think social
networking is the greatest thing since canned arsenic, there are already
exist plenty of places in that matrix where they discuss movie posters.
There is absolutely no need for MOPO to switch over to some other format.
P.S., There may be a "huge number of collectors of movie memorabilia
worldwide" as John says, but that does not me there is a "huge" number
of *active* movie posters collectors out there who are also interested
in participating in any kind of discussion group, either here or else
where. There may be as many as a few thousand movie poster collectors
actively buying at any one time -- but most of them have no desire to be
involved in discussion groups like this. MOPO has 362 members at this
moment and I don't think any of the other forums have even that many
(and, of course, many of the members of those other forums are also
members of MOPO as well).
It's doubtful if there are much more than 500 people at any one time who
are very interested in belonging to an online "movie poster discussion
group" whatever the format.

List-servs are dinosaurs in the world of technology. Why have an
email box cluttered with mass amounts of emails, most of which are
probably of no interest (especially when a lot of off topic stuff)
when today we have social media groups, online forums, etc where WE
have control over what we want to see, read and respond to AND who we
receive email from? List servs were ok in the late 80's , early 90's
but today.....?? Hence, not very appealing to most folks, other than
die-hard collectors/dealers. Now, I realize some don't like change
and prefer the status quo, but maybe itâEUR^(TM)s time for the list
owner to migrate.?. Just my 2 cents.......

Subject: [MOPO] MoPo subscibers

An earlier post mentioned that MoPo has approx 300 subscribers.
That seems to me to be an extraordinarily small number considering
that MoPo has been around for so many years. I think that MoPo is
a wonderful source of information and discussion for collectors of
movie posters and I would have thought that it would attract more
participants.
Despite all of the doom and gloom, the fact is that there are a
huge number of collectors of movie memorabilia worldwide. Is there
a reason why the subscribers list seems to remain fairly static
and remain so relatively small?
