The loss of Patricia Neal is huge. A valiant and talented lady.
My husband and I met her a couple of years ago at the Loew's Jersey
Theatre in Jersey City when they showed THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.
We took a friend along who is a huge fan of THE FOUNTAINHEAD since
there was going to be a reception after the film and we hoped that she
would sign some stills for him. Ms. Neal was interviewed on stage
prior to the screening and was enough of a good sport to say, "Gort,
Klaatu barada nikto."
Lots of people wanted to see her so there was more than a bit of a
wait. She was so gracious to everyone. Our friend was pretty tongue
tied and just stood there looking at her signing his stills. My
husband asked her what she was thinking about in one photo. Not
missing a beat she said, "Sex."
