BRUCE, There will be lots of movie recommendations coming your way. But, if television counts, I cannot recommend you renting the 1st 2nd and 3rd seasons of MAD MEN enough. It is absolutely great in every way possible, sexy, funny, supremely nostalgic and fascinating all at the same time while being extremely well written and acted. Somewhat adult content.
As for movies I am going to recommend three heartily and two highly that I keep going back to in my DVD collection. They get better every time I watch them and they could not be more different but all are so off beat, very well done, and surprisingly poignant and they are THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU, AMELIE and ELIZABETH........I would toss in CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON but that one might get me drummed off MOPO because many thought it slow, nevertheless, that film moved me like few have done in the last 10 years. All of these could be watched with the family as well.
