Kirby is 1000% correct.. you had to live through it

the same is also true of the civil rights movement of the 1960s. I don't think there is any way to really explain the feelings that you would experience seeing civil rights marches and rioting in every major city in the USA

To be a baby boomer and to have missed the psychedelic experience is, in my
opinion, to have missed one of the seminal rites of that generation. There are many good books on the subject, but trying to describe the experience to someone is like trying to describe sex to someone who's never even masturbated or trying to describe any ineffable thing. A current book I have been reading is THE HARVARD
PSYCHEDELIC CLUB. The book is about Tim Leary, Richard Alpert (Ram Dass), the
ecumenical Christian Huston Smith, and New Age Doctor Andrew Weil, who as an undergraduate at Harvard was the guy who blew the whistle on Leary and Alpert -- while simultaneously running his
own psilocybin experiments with the undergraduates!

The classic text is Aldous Huxley's book THE DOORS OF PERCEPTION.

It was also Huxley who named the class of drugs
(no one really knew what they were) PSYCHEDELIC.

Huxley summed the experience up neatly when
he penned this couplet:

To fathom Hell or soar angelic
Just take a pinch of psychedelic

I shared my mescaline experience at a Cinerama showing of 2001 earlier on MOPO, so I won't bore you again with THAT. I saw a double bill of "Bonnie and Clyde" and "I Never Sang for My Father" after eating an enormous amount of hashish, and I'm still in therapy. The former shocked me horribly and the latter depressed me into a coma. The most fun I ever had seeing a movie in an "altered state" was watching"Monty Python and the Meaning of Life" after getting stinking drunk on a night off in New York city. I was very, very loud in my appreciation for the film, especially during Mr. Creosote's visit to the restaurant. People around me left in droves. Bruce...I stopped willingly doing acid in 1969. Too many questions, not enough answers. Not my cup of tea. I was, however, dosed by Owsley, the "Acid King", in 1975 just before a huge concert in San Francisco. Jerk.
