It should be interesting.. the show will be featuring Profiles in
History and Joe Maddalena, following him and his team as he finds
and / or obtains the items he eventually puts up for auction.

I watched the show once not knowing what it would be about. I
thought it was horrendous. And how do I know any of those guys
know what they're talking about? More importantly, do I
care???????? After a thought process of about 2 seconds, I don't.
It's a waste of airtime.

I am no fan of Antiques Roadshow, as many of their "experts" are
anything but, and many of the items they "discover" are likely
planted and rehearsed, and of course there have been several cases
of fraud and wild mis-identifications (repros identified as
originals, etc). See http://www.antiquetrader.com/article/
at_inbox_antiques_roadshow_stop_not_worth_the_gas for an article on
this.
Recently I got a chance to sit down and watch a bunch of episodes
of American Pickers, and I came away with a similar sense of
"unreality". These guys seem to always pay a somewhat fair
percentage of retail, even when the people they are buying from
have no clue of value. Everything is like "they paid $60, they can
sell it for $100". You never see them make a "score" (buy something
for pennies on the dollar), unless it is something they claim they
know nothing about when they buy it. Not once do you see them
privately say "This item is worth $1,000, but I can tell these
people have no clue, so I am going to offer $50". Sometimes they
drive 1,000 miles and then buy three items and make a couple of
hundred bucks? Hmmm....
The show is entertaining, and the two guys are personable, but they
are nothing like any of the real pickers I have encountered over
the years.
