When Australia Post introduced a $9.50 surcharge on parcels from Australia
to the US, forced on Australia by the US government, the reason given was to
cover the cost of "security checking".
It has been going on for years and has added significantly to the time for
all parcels, both in and out, by mail. The time delay has been significantly
increased in recent weeks.
