I put on double triple 35mm film events in my home town where alcohol is
served, without meals. There are breaks in-between movies where film fans can
talk on their phones and chat with friends. I used to put my movie posters in
the display cases, but I have stopped doing that when, during transport, a film
can fell on my Conan poster and put a hole in it. We've had problems with
txting, but it usually stops once they are asked to stop.

When the MGM Grand first opened in Las Vegas in the mid 1970s, they had a
theater that only showed classic movies, and they has two people plush couches
and cocktail waitresses who came to your seat and served soft drinks or hard
liquor at no charge!

Naturally it didn't last long, but it was great while it lasted. They also had
a massively drugged lion on a leash by a giant MGM logo and you could get your
picture taken with it (but they had trouble keeping it awake). They also had a
memorabilia store that at the very first had some good things, but dealers
quickly picked it clean.

It's a wonderful story and a great, great idea, BUT........ Alamo Drafthouse
are theatres that SERVE MEALS and beverages IN the auditorium DURING the
films!!
Now I consider that just as distracting as Texting or any other major activity
that does not involve watching the film or quietly leaving the auditorium.
Everything about Alamo Drafthouse is a plus as far as I'm concerned---- but the
table service in the auditorium negates it all. So they (and the local clone)
willl never get my business.

I would take, for example, say, 5 screens of a 20-screen multiplex and turn
them into no kiddie, no texting, no etc---- upon penalty of expulsion the first
time. Charge 5 bucks more for the privilege of enjoying your experience
without the pain inflicted by the inconsiderate.
Allow no one (unaccompanied by a grown-up--e.g., someone OVER 21) and follow
the Drafthouse policy from there.

Because of conditions in the theatres, I only go to a first showing on a
weekday, preferably a Monday or Tuesday, when there are few people there.
After an unpleasant incident at a local AMC cinema 2 years ago in which I was
threatened bodily (by parents) for telling a teen to cut the phone off, there
ensued a screaming match in the lobby was a better show than anything on any
screen. You should see how fast Staff, Management AND Security could
dissappear!!!! I looked for them but they were nowhere to be found!!!!

Before this incident, I went to an average of 4 to 8 movies a month, depending
on the fare. Since the incident I have seen no more than 8 or 10 movies in a
theatre.
And I hate that.

Oh, well. Yuppie-Kiddies have the bucks. What chance do we have?

Upon reading about last week's Cinevent smackdown that pitted
Customer vs. Dealer, perhaps MOPOers would enjoy seeing how
Alamo Drafthouse dealt with one of their truly unruly customers...
