The COA and/or the Poster DO NOT have to be sent back to for confirmation. Both the poster and the COA have the invisble DNA ink mark but both can be checked by a high frequency UV light. Just by running the UV light over the bottom corner of the poster or over the tag on the COA you can see that the numbers match.

There is also a physical match that can be done just by contacting us over the phone. We offer a grading data sheet that can accompany the poster and becomes a permanent record for the poster, this can be transfered from person to person as the poster changes hands. This is a great indicator of the condition the poster is in when it leaves us, goes back to the collector, or changes hands at a later date. You can actually check the flaws on the poster in regards to the flaws on the grading sheet, plus you can check them against our high resolution image. This PATENTED grading system gives a reporducable grade and is objective, not subjective like any other grading system. If you sent a poster, comic, coin, etc into anyone who grades, most likely you will get a different grade based on who is doing the grading that day, what THEIR criteria is, if their having a bad, etc. With our system it doesn't matter who is doing the grading, they simply follow the grading sheet, fill in the number of flaws, the flaws all have wieghts assigned to them, then the computer generates the grade. This is reproducable...

Steve, you are obviously a detailed guy.  But, I think you are reading way too much into this.  It's much simpler and easier then all of your  "what ifs."  The good greatly out weighs the vague what if this happens or what if that happens.

I am not about to try an address every contingency.  I have tried it & my experience is that this is wonderful and of real value.  Its not perfect.  Its probably not for you & I understand.  But, when you find something that is good, you want people to know.  For example, people have been posting  about how good "Hugo" the movie is.  Well, I have found something good & wanted to let people know.  There will still be people who dont like Hugo.  Jim

If I on sold the poster with a COA and it turned out they were not a match, could there be any legal ramifications for me?  

Additionally I guess the stain on the poster may discolor over time - I am assuming the stain hasn't been tested over real years, maybe simulated sped up years. Who knows for sure, anyone had a poster with the stain on it for 10 years or more?   

Put me in the skeptical camp, I think the idea is in the right place... but... I see MPGrading/COA overall as a negative in my poster acquisitions: cost, possible damage, an unknown stain. Will I lose the COA? (it will be another thing I need to keep track of) Will I muddle up the COA and associate it with another copy of the poster I have... I better stop thinking about this again...

I wanted to make an unsolicited comment about MP Grading.

I have slowly but surely been sending my entire collection to MP Grading.  I think its is a wonderful service.  They have been professionally grading and evaluating my collection.  In this post Haggard era of horror, this is a very comforting thing to do.  I see some real benefits to this program.  There is some inconvenience and some minor costs, but they are far outweighed by the benefits.

Some of the benefits I see are:

1.  I have the assurance that my cards and posters are truly legitimate.
2.  They give you a professional looking certificate for each card showing the grade.
3.  I have found that with some sellers grades vary, depending upon the person doing the grading.  This MP Grading system will take much of the subjectivity out of the system.  As a buyer, I would much rather purchase a card that they have graded, as it is consistent, not subject to the whim of the seller.
4.  They take a very good photo of each card or poster.
5.  As a seller, I can sell a card grading it with confidence, as I just use the grade that MP Grading has given it.  I believe I am getting better prices selling cards that they have graded.  Buyers can be confident.  Especially for me, as I was associated with Haggard.  Buyers have no fear.
6.  I often worry about what would happen if there was ever a fire or a theft.  MP Grading provides a secondary source of verification should I ever need it with my insurance company.  As a matter of fact, I know Four Color Comics experienced this very thing.
7.  I like the fact that my cards are not sealed like cgc cards.  I want my cards out for displaying.

Overall, I think it is wonderful what MP Grading is doing for our hobby.  If everyone got on board, our hobby would be a better, safer, more professional hobby.  I think that would raise our values.

Anyway, I am very impressed with what MP Grading is doing for our hobby.  I encourage each and every collector and dealer to get on board.  Like I said, Todd has no idea I am sending this out.  It is truly from the heart.  Jim Gresham
