I think this is Grey looking at a grey area...sorry couldnt resist. I have handled a Starchild poster that was dated 1969 and even had a 1968 stamp on the back. So I feel Christies did wrongly describe the poster however at auction they did make an announcement.
I clarified that the poster was a later release than the first edition if you like. It is original release from the relaunch of 1969-70. Remember the film stayed in constant circulation through 1968, 69 and 70. In some cases even into 1971. So technically, original release, just not the more rare first printing of the “Star Child” which was printed without any small print in the borders and usually found rolled. Not normal for me to defend Christies but they did the right thing this time. This is not one of those emails where people talk about the bad old auction houses. So don't get me wrong. This was a mistake on Christies' part, I'm sure. I did not get to talk yesterday to the consultant, only her assistant. Whether Christies issued a caveat on the estimate on this poster, I don't know. It did not issue any correction in the e-catalogue. Maybe they did so in the live auction, I don't know. We will sell the REAL one we have for 1625 pounds.
