>the small business is going the way of the small grocery store,
small pharmacy, small hardware store,
our society likes 1.00 store volume, and mass market like target..
Look at the shopping centers and youll see.. and apple stores amd
office max...
yet I believe there is room for Salon boutique business ,, however
the brick and morter volume needed is NUTS... so if done with low
cost labor or profit revenue share.... and low rent ... and careful
inventory control it still can happen and is... the problem is
selection and service and ability to offer personality.. these big
box cannot compete with old school people that can offer wisdom,
experience and passion.. and in the big picture people was variety,
quality and special uniquness .. thats why the high end art and
posters are doing really well.. and as I watch the antique roadshow
the really historic cool stuff is doin well.. Its just that the mass
market collectables that surfaced in 90s and in sports and comics and
all really saturated the market with Fake collectable of all kinds..
then the public overspent of alll those boxes of false collectables
and went BROKE and overspent... But the real good stuff stayed
afloat... and the rare stuff like action #1 and the Monster posters
and all stayed consistant as it was a narrow true collectable.. thats
why the metropolis sold for a million as its a benchmark
collectable... ... so the shipping is a real factor to be
considered.. I think thats why the IPHONEs and gadgets are doing well
is they are light, and high price point.. and made atlow cost... so
you cant help but make money.. esp if you have intellectual property
rights.
this will be a interesting time to do busines..
I think the old timers like Bruce and Richie and all will do well..
as I predict a resurgence in collectables as the new kids come of
buying age and yet i think they will be more selective over the baby
boomers as the boby boomers where obbsessive compulsive to the
extreme.. and horderes.. so look to see many collections come up
for sale again as people croak and make life changes.. the good part
is all the stuff is still out there its just been shuffled around...
