Edward Dmytryk taught for a semester at the University of Texas. I met him at a poster sale that I conducted in the Texas Union. He came up to speak with me because I was standing in front of a six sheet for THE CARPETBAGGERS. He said simply, "I directed that film." He was genial. Later I went to visit him at his home after he had been injured in a fall and gave him some posters from his films. He was under duress and didn't feel like talking much. When I asked him what Elizabeth Taylor was "really like", he excused himself and went to an upstairs room.
