Went to a late showing with an old friend and as the end credits were
scrolling we both said what the hell was that all about. We quickly went
over the story, camera work, music, acting, details, etc., and decided
something was out of sync, an overall missing link. As we were placing the
3-D glasses in the bin, she turned to me and said, "I liked it but I did
not come here to watch a soliloquy." One simple sentence nailed the
critique.

Later I found this notation:

But if it is hard for the theatergoer to catch all the meanings in
Macbeth's rippling soliloquies, then how much harder is that task when
Shakespeare seems unable or unwilling to unpack his obscurities. —James
Wood, *New Republic*, 26 June 2000
