I greatly admire Kirby's thick hide, and wish I could emulate him, but life is too short for putting up with such nonsense. Not only have I been making mostly only personal replies to MoPo members, but I am doing the same on the other forums. The only public posts I make are about my auctions, and I try to keep those to a minimum, but with 3,000 items a week, I still send a fair number.
But not commenting publicly is both stress-free and troll-free, and I see why so many others solely contact me that way.
