I've already been told by a number of people there that her appearance at her
own birthday party "down the street" was a big surprise. She was not expected
to attend.
For years, Doris was Hollywood's highest paid box office star. She could do
musicals, comedies, dramas, everything. And the main reason she hasn't received
an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement is she is adamant about not showing up in
person to get it. She doesn't care about awards. Thus I was surprised that
she took charge of her image on her 90th, releasing her first photo to People,
no close-ups, etc. But she wanted to acknowledge the best wishes which have
come her way over the many years since she retired, hence her surprise
apperance at her own party. Regardless, I would still love to hear her speak
again on a world stage; she is NOT an invalid. She just doesn't want the
spotlight. -d.

As Ms Day looked, arriving to her 90th birthday bash, at the Quail Lodge and
Golf Club, in Carmel, CA. She looks amazing!!

Mickey Rooney looked confused and bewildered when he appeared at AMPAS in 2012
for a screening of "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." As far as "survivors,"
besides De Havilland, Maureen O'Hara is still around, her career started in the
late 1930s, and I think Doris Day still counts, her singing career started in
the late 30s even though her first film wasn't until after WWII; she just
turned 90 and to my surprise, the normally reclusive star actually made a big
to-do about turning 90, having a big party near her home and everything. I
love that woman. This is what 90 looks if you're Doris Day.Date: Mon, 7 Apr
