just was looking at your book the other day.. still have not forgot as I liked the concept.. Good questions and since Im old school like you have thougt about it as well. see the new logistics are great but we are like a old grocery store with personal serice.. To compete with the fcatory farm approach of many dealers would be crazy.. however to no take 20 years to move material and increase volume takes some thoght,, In my case laziness is the mother of invention..I like to make stuff as simple as I can and build in redudant elements,,, I still do bills by hand and make lists andmy son uses a iphone to do everything.. I dont Text but I study and consider eeverything.. What i did in te past to make shipping easy is stage the items and create a vasic Ball park flat fee for domestic based on the farthest area like washington state ..this will vary depending on your area a cost svaer also is what I call bashing the product.. many dealers hype it as flawless , perfect and allto maximise sales.. i try to give it a below what it is rateing so that the customer will be overwhelmed with Koy and hense buy more and trust me in the future,it also saves much acid stomach from return sales , refunds and disgruntled ungappy customers... you will always find someone you cant please matter of fact it seems liek the tinist sales are the ones that gripe the most doesntit?... then I try my best to give extra..it might be something they like or interested in or something they would like.. It is my way to show respect and appreciation no matter how much they spend...I give free chalk with my clapboards because how many peopel have chalk layingg around the house and if they are in manhatten that could be a safari to find soem so I think I call it a Christmas present...as my joy comes from making others happy...the po and I have so fuch fun as they know all my storys on how Ive lost money on shipping as I didnt weigh rigt or the other day the woman asked .. why do you fix your clocks free?? well I said to show integrity of my comapny and my product and why I value my customers.. it makes peopel actually giggle.. because they dont get treated well many times and it shocks them... I even thought... wo Im barely paying my bills and fixing this Guys clock,,,i must be insane... but I really think it builds our spirit and makes our buiness and relationships go better when we just try to do the best service we can for others....I think it sets in motion positive and you can feel it.. and when They are happy yoou can feel it and youll do a better job as you wont be stressed as much.. to sell you wares,,, just be you...whenI lost my building(paid OFF Btw) in Divorce and was like a lost bunny ,, i was really embadaxeed =depressed and felt like a loser,, because I was a small vendor and felt I failed,, so I founda apartment in the country actally it was a luxery condo type apt. next to a pond withe geesebuily by the amish so i set up a shop in the attached garage and screenprinted and dried my clappers on the floor air dry no conveyeor like I had and,ran drillpresses and gear in day while peopel where at work between the fumes andnoise im am surpises no one had a fit...but you adapt and do what you need to do to get stuff done.. and I survived through it,,the manger even said you need some room so go ahead,,, it was really funny.. Ok thenI bought a home with Garage and space by 2007 and was ale to actually do things liek I used to but Ill tell you it was hard,, not as hard as when you get ill,, that stops the whole thing...But you just keep tring to get up... I just realized i will be 70 in 13 years it tok me 14 since 2000 to even get this far and i thought where am I tring to get anyway? My mortgage is 3o years so I woudl be 88 !!! hahha what a joke,so Alan I personally think.. we just share our passion wih others help them discover the pop culture we seem to know about as most people could care less about most of it,,pay the bills and serve others,, the simplest way is do what you can each day as to much confusion gives us stress and hear attacks , so just go at your personal pace... if you need to rampit up hire a kid that likes to type fast or pay them a %.. I dont because 90% dont even know as much as me as to what the item is and Im not that bright.. if you have to aid the typer might as well list it.

as for set price Vs auction have a multi grid. on things that are gold let people set the price and bid.. on stuff that you want to moce think in tiers of gradeing and bulk it out for time saver,, also keep a open mind to offers and package deals, trades and wholsale.. because of time and space and processing.. people get caught up in maximum selling yet slow down the overall process..yet some auctions miss the boat as with poor timing and sluggish economy...we all are in same boat as its really up to the buyers who support the market not us...I have no idea your inventory but I would 1st group it as to tyes and fast movers and then stage on a multi front.. direct to dealers gos fast Colectors may pay the most quickest and auctions you can get lucky and get 10 times what you wanted allthough ive also got 10 cents for things worth more so selling to dealers can be a loss.. unless you need someone to Buy it all then they can solve the logjam in hours.. as they then have to process it ,, the research takes the most time and then packing ,listing and colecting the funds.so dealers earn the money as do auction house, they present it ina venue stage it withstyle and primp ot up... so that buyer feel comfortable they are getting a good items... the Big auctionhouse remind me oF a hollywood studio as they package stuff and wear suits and look the part...me?? I love to wear a salvation army bought polo shirt shorts and thats about it and im happy as a clam.. Howard R.Hughes and I would have been great Roommates I reckon/ speakling of i need to replace my shirt i just notice it has holes in it..damn 3.50 down the drain ! wll I myst be getting better at least im talking about posters this year..LOL:)

Great posts Helmut and Tom -

Tom, I think you put your finger on it - the problem I am having is
not being able to create a simple click and pay instant invoice that
covers posters all the way up to large and expensive objects and art
in far away places.
(As well as not even being able to trust the USPS plug ins to cover
oversized - made our official complaint to the USPS Customer Affairs
Dept.!)
It’s because research is now a key element to pricing and that often
now needs to be done in communication with the buyer over a number of
emails.

I am thinking at this moment - what about a catalog sales approach -
all my items - large and small -
A customer clicks to buy and I create an invoice with custom elements
where required for them for exactly what it will cost to ship and
insure their item.
Nobody loses - customers pay their fair share.

The only problem is that it is not an instantaneous check out.
Are collectors so spoiled today they would not want the time taken to
have their shipment fairly priced and fully insured?
Does anyone else out there have experience as a buyer or seller using
the BUY and then INVOICE system?
And what do you pros think about this idea?

And thanks again, everyone, for such great input on this issue.
