Speaking of John Jarratt, when I was reviewing films on a radio station here in
Brisbane, I had the opportunity to go to a lot of press screenings and still
do. One of them was for ‘Wolf Creek’ which John Jarratt opened. Jarrat made
the comment that Wolf Creek was made on ‘Mel Gibson’s’ lunch money. John and
Mel went to acting school together and both got their first acting feature in a
low budget surfing film called ‘Summer City’.

At the Wolf Creek opening, Michael Caton (who starred in the Aussie flick ‘ The
Castle’) also attended and is a good mate of John’s. I was fortunate to speak
with both and Caton made the comment that the role Jarratt took was a real
actors role for him. Jarratt’s character could not be any further from the
real John Jarratt essentially. To this day I can’t watch Wolf Creek a second
time, too bloody scary…

I interviewed quite a lot of famous people when I was doing the Drive programme
on a radio station on the Gold Coast. Patti Austin, Ray Barrett, John Jarratt,
Chris Botti, Amanda Carr, Louis Shelton, Vince Jones and lots more. It was
always a lot of fun talking to talented people and asking them about their
work.

Just wondering who among the Mopo membership has had any sort of relationship
with movie stars. In the Summer of 1970 I spent a few days drinking with Roddy
McDowall in a pub in Kew, London (he drank pints of Bloody Marys). Liam Neeson
lived round the corner from me for many years and my wife and his sister were
very close friends - she cuddled him as a baby. Who did (do) you know?
