Not sure about Mel - But the great - the super great - Paul Blaisdel lived in Topanga. That’s the top of the heap for me - to make Corman monsters for a couple hundred bucks and play the monster in the suit was real show biz. Low budget monster movies were all I ever cared about as a kid -
Cool stuff was just trash in North Carolina when I was growing up. Didn’t even have to pay for it. I’d show up at a theater and they’d say take what you want. I'd call my father - he’d pick up the biggest Uhaul and hook it to his caddie - Hire 2 guys and clean the place out for me. Told you my daddy knew his stuff. I was just a kid, but he helped me. Would wake me up at night after I had gone to bed and tell me new window cards were out on the telephone poles - And we’d go get a few. I was about 8 or 9 - mid 1950’s. Have still go poster ink in my veins.
