Not sure about Mel -
But the great - the super great - Paul Blaisdel lived in Topanga.
That’s the top of the heap for me - to make Corman monsters for a
couple hundred bucks and play the monster in the suit was real show
biz.
Low budget monster movies were all I ever cared about as a kid -

Cool stuff was just trash in North Carolina when I was growing up.
Didn’t even have to pay for it.
I’d show up at a theater and they’d say take what you want.
I'd call my father - he’d pick up the biggest Uhaul and hook it to
his caddie -
Hire 2 guys and clean the place out for me.

Told you my daddy knew his stuff.
I was just a kid, but he helped me.
Would wake me up at night after I had gone to bed and tell me new
window cards were out on the telephone poles -
And we’d go get a few.

I was about 8 or 9 - mid 1950’s.
Have still go poster ink in my veins.

Hey Tom -
Send me one of those doggone things to look over and try out -
sounds
like fun.
I used to use an earlier version of the voice box - called a message
repeater - back in the 1960’s.
Sold good luck trolls and we had this little silly voice talking for
them.
Whenever someone came close we hit the remote control button.
The trolls started talking and people damn near flipped out!
Didn’t even have sensor to start automatically in those days.
Everything was by hand as they say.
My father’s store sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of those
good luck trolls from Sweden when they first came out -
Before anyone else in Charlotte had them!
Now, he was a salesman!
You and my father would have liked each other.
Taught me everything I know about selling stuff and I’ve kept
myself
alive so far doing just that.
I’ll enjoy it, so send whatever you want to:
