wiw...it dawned on me over the weekend..how so much has changed inthe 41
years ive been doing this..how movies are distributed,,theway we watch
them.the waywe access them.
wheni started in77 star wars was just pening..anmdold films you had to
watch onTV..the lateshow or at film fests intheaters..midnight
mvies..withstogges retors....forign art house films..and colleges..
they were on 16mm mostlyas the interets was soslow...
I used to get films for free fromthepublic libraray and watch them in
my office as a booking agent indown town Toledo..thats how i discovered
a 1972 film called Hollywood The dream factory..Dick Cafett did the
narraaton anditwas about the1970 MGM auction of movie memorabilia..
I was hooked...i still havea 16mmprintofthat film....itwas siomberas so
much history was disposed of ina few days..
I had tehacutioncatalogs at one timealongwith the 20th century
foxcatalogs,andotherstudios...O had a complete sui of AMor from Benhur
thatwas screen worn witha helment,sword,breatplate..theywere made in
Italy...anditwas sold back to Hollywood....so its ina big collectioon ..
consider thew was no internet...wheni started..we
sentpaperlists...andthe technology to even do typeseting was a lineo
type andthen waxed...orhand written..vcrs didntcomeout till 1984 m 1st
was abut500.00 and then beta came...then teh videodisc
liekcriterions...then dvd..and tehn blue ray..and now its
almostallstreamingand no dvds no videostres..no rental or hardware..
myson says they donteven sellVHS anymore...the TVs are all led ,OrHD...4
k...andeven3 d...
the audio has become onpat witha a digital theater...
I still likeanalog howeverdigital ispractical...
still..I sell old technology...i haveold projectors andtheyare fun to
watch d news reels or shortsas theyare mechanical......some old movie
guys lketarentino andPaul allen agree and havesave70 mm film with
filmslikehateful 8...andcinerama..ther was a guy name John Harvey
fromDayton the new neon theater who saved the 70 mm..and Boston lightand
sound revameped theold projectors..it even got Kodak to redo super 8mm
film for artists wgo love film....
so its been a great journey...i staill havea tascam midi studio with
8trackanalog..i plan o pull outand record musicc...Jack white ofthewhite
stripes builta vibylpressing plant in detroit..so guys are into Vivyl
records again...andpeople evenlikeold polaroid cameras...I haveem..if
you need emmm..so ina way the fact the world has gone backwatds...has
beenok for meas i haveabout the same stuffi had in 77 lol...I still usea
floppy disc camera mavica,,i haveike 8 ofthem still havesomeofmy 35mm
cameras likea Pentax superme.and olympus om1 and a few canons
andnikon..theywere all good camers...we juswent digital...andim ona Imac
from 2006
I still.have stuff as far bak as 1699s...and books ..that are notas
popular as theywere but I still buy them as i remberhow fun it is to
lookat a book and learn...so much has been lost in just the last18 years
ive been flounderingaround tryingto healandget back ntrack,,
Its funny...as in a waythepopculture that by theway was coined inBG ohio
as they wee the 1st to start saving it as a seriousstudy...along
withpulps and detective books, comics, Movie posters andall the stuff we
saveinthe genres..
consider wheni stared i could buy actuall magazine coverart by
themasters likeJCleyandecker fora few hundred bucks..did i ??nope..i did
savea few sat eveningposts as i like him...but back inthe80s the
stuffwas cheap and therwas warehouse fold stuffall over
theplace,,,toys..andyouname it as i foundmany many
finds..beforetheinternet...
we used to just trade with each otheras one dealer would find sayold
tintoys..and anotherold billgram concert postersand so we wouldtrade
amounst each other toexpand the inventory..there is still fins as
manypeple boughtand horderd thestuff..then they getold..die..andit gets
recycled..so much pepel dontcare anymore as yong people dont like
thesame stuffas babby boomers..yet...there are always exceptiona...
so I thought ia way its comefullcircle..as thepeople that like it
stilllke it justmany aredown sizingtomake life more managable..andas far
as new stuff i think peple are more selective...
I havea few left ofa great boo from 1986 by dave bowerscalled
nickelodeons andthier music..ifyouwant to start at thebegging ofmovies
before movie posters where evenused..this is it..itsfromtheperiod
ofaround 1913.loaded withpic..i have new unopend 1st editions ive seen
offerd for over100..00 ill sell you for 40.00postpaid...and giveyou soem
extras lije movie tickets and promice if you donthave i.itwill be one
of the most treasured books ever in your collection asits one ofmine..i
liked itso much back inthe90s i bought his remainder 400 copies..i have
softboaud andill do the hadboound 1st with a DJ for 55.00 so act sooon
they arealmostall gone..then you will have to buy on amazonand pay 100s
david reprinted the book in 9-s as demand was so high..but these are
the original...we even supllied movie mags fromthe teens as
reference..andi bought thse nack too...so i have them ifyou like old
movie magazines loaded with info..
yes itwill be funny to see whats ahead..as this world is funny..but
eentertainment has really morphed..andthekids have become
sofastatprocessing data...yet they long forsimple storys and want to be
treated withlove and kindness..andhave peaceand simple living..i can dig
it and soI think they want friends and family and conversation and to be
treated honestly///so i hpe i can help hem do that..as theartificial
stuff has lost itsappeal andthere is nothing that beats friendship ofall
things..kind was a longlesson for me..but its beautiful when people
shaeand help each other...it feels better then theopposite...haea great
week folks..I have needed sometimeto reset my thoughts...but its been
all good..and i thank you all..Gd bless.
